What are some challenges that chiropractic profession faced ?and how can they handel these problems?!

Question: Chiropractors since the late 1800's have been faced with many challenges ranging from persecutions, being jailed for practicing our art and science, and not to mention the downright disrespect from people on this site like Kalos or Sam Harvey. In reality, the art and science of manipulation (adjustments dates far back). Chiropractors have come a long way and we still are making improvements in our profession and are striving to make great strides like the other professional fields. Many do quit due to frustrations with battling with the medical establishment. Because of our approach to a drugless and non-surgical health, we are hated and mis-understood by many folks and are never truly given the respect in our knowledge and dignity we deserve. To this date, the chiropractic profession is regarded as the third largest health care field after dentistry and medicine, with over 65,000 practitioners in the USA and outside countries. I cannot stress how much as a doctor, that we work for the patients and not the other way around, and because of that we have the highest satisfaction rate with patient care, somehow the medical establishment has forgotten that and they seem to have a "GOD" complex. Perhaps too much watching House MD, who knows? But improvements are on the way, just takes time and I have seen it first hand as a chiropractor. We need to as a profession, unify together, do away with either the ACA or ICA and become one, treat only what is scientifically evidenced based, and be great at what we have always been great at, musculoskeletal care and injuries.

Chiropractors face great adversity from a healthcare industry that is more attuned to making billions (trillions) of dollars off of pharmaceutical medicines. A third of the GNP goes to medicine and other medical care, and they want to keep it that way.
Chiropractors offer a less expensive, non-addicting way to be pain free, and because of that they have a target on their backs.
PS: What exactly was the GPA of the Medical doctors who operated on the wrong side of the brain three times? Apparently their medical education didn't indclude the words "left" and "right" or the importance of reading chart notes or being sober before performing dangerous operations.

Kalos i love reading your answers because you are a funny guy! I really don't know where you pull half your answers but apparently you missed your calling as a comedian!!! As far as chiropractic students that have low GPA's that's a load of crap - where do you get your information? Most chiro schools require at least a 3.5! And for the record i'm sure there are a few chiro students that don't have amazing GPA's just like there are medical students that don't have amazing GPA's. And having the highest GPA isn't what makes you a good doctor, obviously you need to be intelligent, however other factors need to be considered too (which medical and chiro school both do consider - through interviews etc.). I will admit that i'm not the hugest advocate of chiropractic medicine at times, however if you knew the prerequisites to enter into chiropractic schools you would know that the students are not "dumb" like you seem to think!
From the sounds of your answers you would love a world that consisted of only male medical doctors that did not believe in anything but dishing out medications for every ailment???

Added: I love the stats you quoted from 10 years ago...times have changed! I don't really know a lot about chiro schools however i do know that the minimum average GPA is 2.5 and most don't get in with that average (most have about 3.0-3.5 now). They take into consideration their GPA, the interview, essay, etc. - i know quite a few people that have applied to chiro school with a degree and a good GPA and have not gotten into CMCC in Toronto - however most of them just go into the states because most school in Canada are more difficult to get in to (and that seems to be true for a lot of professions) And again....regardless is someone has a 3.2 or 3.5 GPA, a lot of times what makes a good doctor is someone that is intelligent but that it also hardworking and has good bedside manner! What exactly is your profession Kalos???? Oh and maybe you should to to www.yahoo.ca right now and check out the story on the medical doctors at one hospital that have done brain surgery on the wrong side of the brain 3 times this year - clearly having a high GPA doesn't always guarantee that you'll be a good doctor!

some of the greatest challenges are the misinformation of posters like the one who arrived before me.

I know personally many dc's (md's & do's also). no dc known to me uses magnets. sacrocranial techniqie was developed by do...teaches in Miami, open to dc's, md's & do's.
nacm is an organization of 60 dc's who failed in private practice and found a way to make income bashing the profession in which they could't do the job.

websites offered as reference by other poster are more barrett sites.

for dc education source below is national institute of health
for accurate info on other's source see #2

good reply Megan!

The biggest challenge is that chiropractors are saddled with an embarrassing and false theory of disease called the "subluxation" hypothesis. This leads chiropractors
