It's a much weaker opioid analgesic than vicodin or darvocet, and has low recreational value because taken at what most people would consider fun doses, it can cause convulsions.. Much better for treatment of pain than a night of fun..

Tramadol is an agonist of different opioid receptors in the central nervous system and the effects are not necessarily similar to other opioids such as oxycodone or hydrocodone.. They won't get you "high" but they will have a moderate opiate effect..
