Sounds like what they call GERD but I don't understand why your saying the doctors don't know what to do.. The first thing that has to happen is improved digestion in the stomach and then improved HCL secretion and stomach-emptying is the first priority.. If I had a problem to this extent I would surely first most importantly buy some slippery elm and licorice which you can buy at any health food store, take them religiously it can help neutralize the acids in the stomach for one and provide some relief as well.. also something this bad that the doctors "say" they can't help.. Sounds like it very well could be an allergic reaction that is if it's not genetic or a symptom of a larger condition.. So I would get some black rice and it must be black rice which you can pick up at any chinese store and only eat this for 5 days, then add only one thing to your diet every week and delete the item if it makes you feel worse................................................................

I said "Improved HCL secretion" that could mean make it not produce enough or make it produce more.. In any case the symptoms are the same for both.. Though It is rare that there is an over production of it though but sounds like what is his problems which is why I gave ways to neutralize it now please do you research again and read what I wrote again, Don't jump to conclusions ok raven thank you..........

also Raven there is no acid production in the esophagus so if it is getting corroded by acids where do you suppose this acid comes from.? you guess it it is his stomach so please again do more research..

also as raven suggested have doctors prescribe meds, REALLY why don't you read the question again she said the doctors don't know what to do.. also filling up on antiacids actually can be very counter productive because it will wreck the nuetralizations of the acids int he stomach now please again do your research..Health Question & Answer

OK, first of all, last time I looked, hydrochloric acid is produced in the stomach, and not the oesophagus..
The acid will be travelling from his stomach, up the way, not the other way round..
There are conventional drugs called PPIs that can help to treat the symptoms of severe reflux, but his doctors will need to prescribe them..
Taking a teaspoon of Bicarbonate of Soda in a glass of milk should help him to belch..

EDIT: In response to GreenShaman - I did not pull apart your posting, and am a little baffled as to why you have done the same to me..
My answer had absolutely nothing to do with what you had written at all.. I thought you had given a good answer.. I was not jumping to any conclusions, OK GreenShaman.? Thank you..
You said: "also Raven there is no acid production in the esophagus so if it is getting corroded by acids where do you suppose this acid comes from.? you guess it it is his stomach so please again do more research"

I suggest that you go back and read what I said again.. I did not say that HCI is produced in the oesophagus.. I said it is produced in the stomach, and travels up the way.. NO guesswork involved.. I kow thw acid comes from the stomach.. No need for me to do any more research thank you..

I don't need to read the question again.. There is no mention whatsoever of medications being tried in the question, only a mention of surgery.. It is going to be pure guesswork to assume any meds that have already been tried (which some obviously will have been), so my meaning there was that there could be other PPIs that have not yet been tried..
Again, I am aware that filling up on PPIs as you put it, can be couter productive.. But as there has been no mention of medications already tried, how am I or anyone else for that matter to know how many have already been taken.?

Your suggestions were good ones, but your attitude to me is downright rude, when I had nothing to say about what you had posted.. I do not need to go away and research as you imply.. I already have the knowledge I need thank you..

Please don't be so rude, there really is no excuse..

Back to the question: Has he seen a nutritional advisor.? Getting advice over his diet will really help.. Just a suggestion though.. Having severe acid reflux is a horrendous thing to have to suffer.. I hope that he feels better very soon..Health Question & Answer

I have to wonder what type of operation.? Could it have been an upper GI endoscopy to look at the esophagus.? It also seems very odd that doctors don't know what to do.. Have any of these drugs been prescribed......Nexium, Prevacid, Prilosec, Protonix, or Aciphex.? Hiatal hernia, acid reflux (GERD), esophagial reflux barretts......these are just a few of the possibilities......also, is a specialitst involved.? A gastroenterologist.? Many people live with acid reflux, and with the help of the above medicines, can resume normal living; you really do not have enough information to get a valid answer, so I would suggest finding out more details.. Good luck to you and well wishes to him..

Health Question & Answer

His esophagus doesn't make acid--it is coming up from his stomach.. NO fried food, very small meals throughout the day, no fast eating or too much liquid.. He needs to stay upright at least an hour after eating.. There's a health food store product made with d-limonene that really works for this--mine was called Heartburn Relief.. It costs $25 or so for 10 tables, which you take every other day.. Lasts for months and is better than any OTC and most prescription drugs.. Health Question & Answer

Just thought this was an interesting question.. Seems like green has your question answered pretty well and managed to beat off someone who didn't at the same time.. Green seems to know what he is talking about I did some research on google myself and he seems to have nailed it I guess..Health Question & Answer
