What Vitamins/Supplements can I take to Help Avoid Getting Sick?!

Question: What Vitamins/Supplements can I take to Help Avoid Getting Sick.?
I am sick 24/7 during the school year because I don't sleep enough and I have high stress. I know the right thing to do is sleep more but this is impossible with my schedule.

I take a multi-vitamin, echinacea, vitamin C, and zinc. Are there any other things that are supposed to enhance the immune system.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
I'm not nuts about multi-vitamins, but they're probably better than no vitamins.

Enchinacea should only be taken for a few weeks, then two or three weeks off of it.

Olive Leaf extract (health foods stores..) help boost the immune system, and just as important, stop drinking sodas or other sugar-based drinks. Sugar (and salt) really knock the immune system for a loop. Selenium is sometimes needed to work with the zinc, and magnesium asporotate can also help, in that most adults don't get enough magnesium - but some people need zinc before the magnesium will work. Magnesium is pretty safe, overdoing it just promotes loose stools, but one or two capsules a day may help keep things moving, and this, along with lots of CLEAN water, can help more than you'd imagine.

Vitamins: B Complex, C, D, E Complex (NO "DL" E's please..) and a diet including dark leafy green veggies and occasional fruit will help. Knock off the sodas, even the diet drinks!

Good Luck!Health Question & Answer

Ease up on the vitamins. Echinacea does nothing - clinical trials confirm this. And overdoing the antioxidants can impair your immune system response to infection. The body generates oxidative free radicals as a part of its way of responding to infection, Antioxidants like Vit C take up these free radicals.

If you can't get a decent diet, plenty of exercise and rest, then a multivitamin only may help a little. Otherwise, you need to alter your schedule!Health Question & Answer

Isotonix? OPC-3? is an isotonic-capable food supplement that is made from a combination of bilberry, grape seed, red wine, pine bark extracts and citrus extract bioflavonoids, all found to be potent antioxidants. Oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) are bioflavonoids (complex organic plant compounds) found in fruits, vegetables and certain tree barks that provide exceptional nutritional benefits to the human body. Studies have shown OPCs to be up to 20 times more powerful than vitamin C and 50 times more powerful than vitamin E in neutralizing free radicals. Isotonix OPC-3 contains the only isotonic form of Pycnogenol? in the world. Pycnogenol is a natural plant extract from the bark of the French maritime pine tree, and the most clinically researched and potent bioflavonoid.

Isotonix? dietary supplements are delivered in an isotonic solution. This means that the body has less work to do to obtain maximum absorption. The isotonic state of the suspension allows nutrients to pass directly into the small intestine and be rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream. With Isotonix products, little nutritive value is lost, making the absorption of nutrients highly efficient while delivering maximum results.

On top of that I'd say add a bit of ginger and/or cayenne pepper. Ginseng is also helpful, as the energy it gives you helps your body in many ways. It might be a good idea to drink some green tea as well, and if you feel the need to sweeten it use Agave Nectar or Stevia powder rather than sugar. Pomegranate Cranberry juice is really good as well, but make sure you get the all juice kind, R.W. Knudsen has a good organic juice, it's the one I buy.Health Question & Answer
