Any views or experiences of Colonic irrigation?!

Question: Any views or experiences of Colonic irrigation.?
Hi i am thinking of getting it done, while the thought of it does make me cringe i think it would be good for my health. I have irritable bowels and thought that this along with a more controlled diet may help ease some of my problems, what are your experiences.?
I would like to know how often it is recommended, prices and if you feel instantly better and less bloated, also how long does it take for you to be able to go to the toilet again afterwards.?

If there is anyone who knows where to go in north london/ middlesex that would also be great!

My Mum swears by colonic has been doing them 4 times a year for about 10 years now. She pays 50 quid a time. I remember when she first started she had to have 4 in a row each week. This is so that things really get loosened up at the sides and washed off so that you are properly clean inside. Not everyone needs this. An experienced person performing the colonic massages your tummy and can feel if there is anything left that should come out. They also know from looking at the water. Apparently some people are spring cleaned from the first time, others need more. My Mum needed 4 in a row but some people need more the first time. Before hand my Mum was advised to do warm compresses on her lower tummy of castor oil, apparently this helps any debris on the sides of the intestines come away easier. She also has a very light diet the couple of days before. After the colonic she is given probiotics from both ends to rebalance the intestinal flora. My Mums intestines have extra twists and bends in them compared to how the intestines should normally lie. She sufferred terrible pains for years, had terrible IBS, after the investigative procedure in hospital they said it was just the way she was made and nothing really they could do. Colonic has given her such relief. I remember when I was a kid she would be doubled up in pain. She is fine now, the colonic practitioner is one of these holistic people etc. and did some tests on Mum and food, she has to avoid, gluten and wheat. My Mum is in her 60's, I am in my 40's and she wants me to have colonic, I don't have any digestive problems so I haven't yet, but I do like the idea of being clean on the inside.

You need to be very careful who you go to. If the water pressure is wrong or they massage you too roughly it can rupture your intestines. There is also a school of thought that says it unbalances the intestinal flora, but my opinion is not more than eating too much acid food and drinking too much. also a good practitioner deals with this after the colonic by giving you good probiotics to take.

Hope you get some answers from people who have actually done the procedure, hope this answer helps in the mean time.Health Question & Answer

Well Princess Diana was supposed to be well into it & if you eat a diet with lots of meat it takes a while for it to work through your body. Today's western diet (low in roughage & high in refined foods) can be a lot for the modern digestive system to cope with. I have been a veggie for the last 20 years & avoid refined food so have never felt the need...

So....I have never had it done & don't know the prices but this link may help:

Whatever you decide ....for improved gut function I would definitely recommend prebiotics - I'm regular as clockwork & feel so much better since I started taking them.....

Best of luck!!Health Question & Answer
