I was a two-pack-a-day chain-smoker who quit cold turkey in 2003. Never touched another one. One night my body just said NO MORE CIGARETTES. It was as simple as that. I had a choice: I could smoke, or I could breathe. Health Question & Answer

You have to really want to and you have to convince yourself that you can do it! I quit over a year ago, cold turkey. The best thing you can do try to avoid 'triggers' things or situations that make you want to smoke. I know plenty of people who have tried just about every method. The only true way to do it is to want to.
Know that when you suceed in quitting, you WILL feel better, sleep better, smell better, have more energy, and on top of all that you will save a ton of cash!
Good Luck!Health Question & Answer

Just cold turkey. Seriously. I did that on 10-19-07 and have yet to smoke another cigarette. Warning: you will be VERY irritable for the first few weeks, so make sure you don't get into huge fights with your significant other or close friends and family. But, do warn them that you are quitting and to not mind your irritability. Once you get through the first week you will be doing fine. Just remember the benefits of quitting, and keep your mind off of smoking. It is possible, it just takes some effort.Health Question & Answer

You will want to smoke a cigarette. You will. Nothing will curb your craving. If you really want to quit, just stay focused. Think about how good you will feel after a week, then two weeks, then a month, and so on. Tell everyone close how long it has been every day and welcome encouragement. I quit cold turkey over two years ago. I have smoked twice since. You will want one forever, but isn't it good to know you're not alone.?Health Question & Answer

Let me just say right now that this is going to be one of the hardest things you'll do. But it is SO worth it. What I did was stocked up on gum (my favorite was Orbit), drank lots of water because it flushes out your system, and constantly did thinks to keep my mind off of it. I drew, wrote, played video games, played with my kids, etc. DO NOT watch movies that have ppl smoking in them because it will make you want to. And try to avoid people you know that smoke for at least a couple weeks. And if you can't avoid them ask them to please not smoke around you. And lastly, I don't know if this happens to anyone else...but when I go out drinking the urge to smoke always comes back. So be careful with that. The first couple weeks are the hardest. If you can make it past that, it's smooth sailing from there. It's been 3 1/2 years since I last smoked, I know you can do it too!Health Question & Answer

Don't use patches or gum at all. I've heard they have a 93% FAILURE rate. Just quit cold turkey, I know it's hard but I'm going through the same thing. What's been helping me is just to have some candy around, something to keep your mouth occupied. Try not to think about it. The first day SUCKED for me but now I'm doing better. Best of luck. Every time you think of having a cigarette, tell yourself how nasty it is. Imagine this filthy cloud of smoke filling your insides and coating your lungs with crap and killing cells. It also helped me to keep a couple old butts in a tin can. Whenever I wanted to take a puff I just sniffed it. PHEW!! Nasty! Really turned me off fast.Health Question & Answer
