Comfrey is the best thing you can use for sprains. If you can get it fresh, use the leaves or roots to make a poultice. If not you can find it online. This company has awesome quality products www.mountainrose.com

Ice packs will help to reduce the swelling.
St. Johnswort oil will help to heal any nerve damage and alleviate painHealth Question & Answer

aloe vera is usually for superficial pains. If you can get hold of fresh eucalyptus leaves (dried leaves also work but I've only tried the fresh ones) try soaking a few handfuls in a tub of hot water and let your grandmother relax in it until the water becomes lukewarm.
You can also rub some mint leaves around the area but the relief is only immediate and the pain will probably come back.
If none of that works, a good dose of balsam or Deep Heat should do the trick. If even after all that nothing works then your grandmother must've broken something!
Good luckHealth Question & Answer

1.) Cover the wound in peanut butter, and wrap it in bamboo leaves.
2.) Remove after a day of soaking.
3.) Repeat every other day for one week.

well..my mom says have her a hot compress..idk why but it helps..i'm from the philippines and usually when we have sprains,we go to a "manghihilot" or someone who massages the sprained part..but,anyway,she must consult to a doctor soon coz,it may be serious than we think..hope she'll be okay..:DHealth Question & Answer

Assuming that your grandmother is elderly you should be concerned about a possible break. Rest should have made the pain a little less. You should definately take her to the doctor.Health Question & Answer

Definitely go to the doctor. In the mean time put ice on her back. Swelling means she will be in more pain. The ice should help with that. Make sure she stays off her feet and relaxes cause tensing the muscles will only prolong the pain and injury.Health Question & Answer

Try hot and cold packs. Alternate them and see which one sooths best then use it three times a day. If she is no better in a couple of days take her to the doctors, something might be broken.OK!Health Question & Answer
