I attended a group hypnotherapy session. It was held at a hotel/convention center & the cost was $50/person. The goal was to help in losing weight. It was a friend's idea & she paid for both of us to give it a try. I went into it very open-minded. The whole thing took about 45 minutes & then we were given a free tape of the entire session to listen to I believe 3 times a week. So, not wanting to just give up on the whole idea, I followed through with the taped sessions. Nothing really changed at first, but in the following years I became addicted to heroin & cocaine and the pounds simply dropped right off me. I lost about 65 lbs. in less than a year, got arrested & went to jail. I continued to maintain my new weight with a well-balanced prison diet. Got out, got clean, and have never felt better. I guess sometimes you get what you wish for.

Would I recommend it.? Yes.. Absolutely!
Would I do it again.? No.. Not at all.

When I was in Psych class in college we did a hypnotherapy session for the class using a government issued audio tape of a hypnotherapist. The professor took notes of how we reacted and then used a government rating scale to rate our susceptibility to hypnotherapy which is apparently used for rating agents of some Fed agencies.

I remember that I was totally aware and conscious during the whole thing. I followed the directions on the tape but then I thought "I'll see what happens if I don't do the next instruction" and I just didn't raise my hand and that was it, I didn't feel the urge to do it.

My rating was a 4 or 5 out of 10 I think, meaning I was not particularly susceptible but it was still possible for me to be hypnotized.

I've had friends who went to a workshop for quitting smoking but the hypnotherapy did not work for them in that case, but it may have helped them along the way in quitting later on in life by focusing them on that goal (not really worth the $$$ in those cases).

I know a friend who says it helped her (one-on-one, not a group) with grieving for a loved one...

SELF-hypnosis worked for me but it took a ton of practice to get good at it.

I used self-hypnosis techniques for several years when I was building up my business and had little time to sleep. I found that 1/2 hour session, when done effectively, could substitute for 4 hours sleep. Great time-saver!Health Question & Answer

I have a few hypnosis cds. I like to do past life regression and akaskic records. They're amazing and I recommend it.

Hello jellybean

As a Hypnotherapist, yes I would recommend it, although it does depend on what you wish to heal & your intentions.
