Any natural remedies for a Migraine?!

Question: Any natural remedies for a Migraine.?
Suggestions helpful, thank you!Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Migraine severely dehydrates the body so as soon as you have an attack/event coming on you should take on as much water as you can to stabilise the bodies fluids. A minimum of a litre and if you find it hard to drink in glassfuls then by a straw continually sipping. Keep the uptake of water to 3 litres for each day of the migraine event, this will keep the meninges of the brain from becoming 'tight' and reduce post migraine headache.
Cold presses and hot water bottles together on various body parts may also allleviate pain and discomfort particularly at base of skull.

I suggest that if you are frequent sufferer of migraine that you see your doc for a neurologist referral as there are many different types of migraine many of which can be quite painful and debilitating and a diagnosis of the exact type you suffer from is important as there are very good drugs available these dayswhich can alleviate the distressing symptoms.

By now you'll appreciate peace quiet bed and a dark room, join the wonderful wold of the migraneurs....circus time.....

For treating symptoms:
Feverfew will help the pain, ginkgo biloba aids circulation and can reduce sensitivity to light and sound, peppermint will help with the nausea.

At the onset:
Take lecithin (between 3 and 6 1,200 mg capsules ) at the first sign of a migraine- it lessens both length and severity of the headache.
Inhale essential oil of lavender at the beginning of a migraine- this also can lessen pain and duration.

To prevent occurrences:
Avoid avocados, aged meats, chocolate, MSG, nitrites, canned fish, alcohol and dairy products. And get regular Chiropractic adjustments, they help a great deal.

Try this, Take some cayenne pepper, and a Q-tip. Get the Q-tip wet and then stick it in the cayenne pepper. Here comes the fun part... Stick it in your nose. By the time the burning is gone, so is the headache.

also, you could try a coffee enema, NOT HOT, I have heard it helps, but I'll stick with the nose as my treatment zone.Health Question & Answer

Aloe juice is excellent. You may buy the prepared ones or you may prepare it yourself. To prepare it you
First wash a leaf
Peal off all the green out part
Dice the gel into a container large enough to hold 2 quarts water
Pour 2 quarts water on and allow to soak for at least 4 hours.
Drink 8 ounces twice per day.Health Question & Answer

Here is what works for me, and there is some scientific evidence as to why it works. Go to your local health food store and pick up a bottle of valerian root. WARNING...it smells like you washed your dog with dirty gym socks. This herb has been used as a traditional "folk remedy" for headaches, sleep disorders, and depression for millenia. SECOND WARNING....some people have trouble metabolizing valerian root, so if you take it, make sure you have a back up plan. A friend turned me on to this 10 years ago. I take valerian root tea with ibuprofen gelcaps and caffeine. Knocks the headache out in 20-30 minutes. My neurologist actually thinks my homemade treatment plan is better than anything he could put me on (and yes, I have his comments documented).Health Question & Answer

not cures..but here's a few things (my daughter suffered migraines from age 6 and the drugs were just so harsh for a little one, I sought & found other ways of dealing)...

obviously a dark, quiet room helps-rest..and sleep is the only thing that i think ultimately gets rid of one

drink water

there is an accupressure point on your palm...if you follow your opposite thumb down the inside of your right thumb past the knuckle about an inch and half or two..and move slightly inward (toward the pinky) that's the point, you hold firmly for a minute. Works on either side, I just used right for description. It would be helpful to look it up and see an illustration. If you can't find it, email me and I can snap a pic and show you easily. This REALLY worked for my girl.

Another thing..and this is different on different people..but you apply heat to the forehead and ice to the back of the neck. Ice over the eyes helped at times as well.

Massage helped sometimes..neck, head, forehead/temples, and eye sockets (gently--steady pressure seemed to work best there).

I did some breathing stuff with her that helped to calm her. Just slow , steady, in through the nose for 6 , hold for 4, out for 6-8 ; really just a steady rhythm that's slow and whatever works to calm you

have a caffeine cocktail..really strong coffee or anything very high in caffeine helps. It works well in combo with the pain meds for migraines (they have caffeine in them as well), but it works without , too

Other things we did were keep a diary and pin down triggers and thus avoided them, went the sinus route (allergies) , and the chriopractic route when she was older (lol, it's what turned me onto chiros..I wouldn't let them treat her til they did me first..I'm hooked now!)Health Question & Answer

Peppermint Oil!!!!
No lie, that stuff is the BOMB! Put it wherever your head hurts and within like 2 minutes, your migraine will be gone!! I use it all the time!! Just be careful with it around your eyes, because if you get it too close to your eyes, it will burn for a little bit.

Good luck!!xxHealth Question & Answer

Believe it or not, I've suggested to many people to just drink 16 oz of water within 10 minutes. Many times dehydration can be a trigger. One thing for certain, it's very safe to try! Best wishes.Health Question & Answer
