i have to get one every 3 months for my lung cancer follow up. what they do is start an iv with a one stick hep lock. just a little tube that can receive the dye injection. then they do the scan without contrast which takes just a few minutes then they inject the dye into the tube. it works almost instantaneously. they scan you again and then you are done. they will tell you exactly what to expect. i hope you have good results. the first scan i had caught my cancer early and it been almost two years with no sign or return. The IV has to stay in the whole time while you are getting the scan. Generally you will go in the room with the machine, lie down, and they will put the IV in. It is but a small pinch and you probably won't be able to feel it after 30 seconds. They will then scan you once without the contrast and then start the contrast flowing. Once it was a minute or two to permeate, they run a second scan and out comes the IV. A piece of cake.Health Question & Answer

I thought the IV part of the CT scan was the best part.

You can feel the ink in all of your veins and it feels really good and it's a nice distraction from what's really going on. Just don't look when they poke the needle in.

My friend, who is terrified of needles, had to have a procedure done that required an IV. She was so scared and didn't really believe me when I said that IVs are fun, and now she agrees with me.

And no, I do not use intraveneous drugs.Health Question & Answer

they will leave it in until the ct scan is done. However, a CT takes 10-15 minutes tops.Health Question & Answer
