However, in the event that it is one of those causes avoid any type of eye drops as this can possibly spread the infection to an unaffected eye or to other people.
Honestly if you feel you have pink eye the best remedy is a cold/wet compress over your eyes. Leave it there for a few minutes, re-wet it, and repeat. It will make your eyes feel a bit better. Pink eye generally clears up on its own in a few day.

'Pink eye' is a viral infection and often your body will overcome it within a few days provided that you are healthy and your immune system is good.
You can find a herb called eyebright (latin name : Euphrasia) which is useful for conjunctivitis. You also get it in an eye drop form where a very dilute water extract is used as eye drops. But ensure that it is the eye drop form that you are purchasing and using. Their is also the oral drops which you should take internally and definitely not put in your eye.

I know of a few of them:
*At bed time put a very small amount of neosporin on a q-tip gently run it along lashes, in the morning it will be gone.
After making your tea use the still warm tea bag... just place on the infected eye.
*Have child pee in a cup, or squeeze pee from diaper and put a few drops in affected eye. I don't know if that remedy is a joke or what, but the chemicals in the diaper alone would make me not use this remedy.
*After making fresh coffee in the morning put some in a cup, wait till coffee gets warm and use a cotton ball swap and rub on infected eye every hour or 2 hours.
*Run hot water in your sink, Let it fill enough to dip your face in.... Add a couple a table spoons of salt, then a couple of table spoons of Vinegar. Dip your face into the homemade solution and stay in as long as you can. Blink your eyes rapidly. Repeat steps every 30 min. for 2 hours. PINK EYE GONE AFTER 2 HOURS.
*Chamomile works! I recommend buying this herb whole and dried (you can find it in the herbs and spices isle...sometimes the Mexican food isle). Put a cup of water to boil, before the water boils, add 2 tsps of Chamomile. Let the Chamomile boil until the water turns dark yellow. Let it cool then use a strainer and pour into a mug. Dip a cotton ball into the tea and clean eyes gently with it. With another cotton ball drop 2 drops into eah eye. If you have time you can soak 2 more cotton balls and lay them on your eyelids.
*Buy a bottle of Clear Eyes Seasonal Relief. I used it thought out the first day as soon as i realized I had pink eye... It was gone the next day! It Absolutely works! (I initially heard boronic acid in contact solution would help. This is better because of the Hydrochloric acid plus zinc sulfate. Kills the bacteria on contact)
*Cut a lemon in half and I squeezed 1 drop into my eye.....I know it burns but believe it or not it clears it up in about an hour.....it works every time....it burns of course but it really helps. Young Coconut Water, It doesn't clear up the eyes instantly but it helps soothe the irritation. Works much better then the tea.
