Are probiotics/acidophilis necessary to take even when ur not on antibiotics?!

Question: Are probiotics/acidophilis necessary to take even when ur not on antibiotics.?
Answers:
Do you "need" them.? No... are they beneficial.? Yes.

Probiotics are essential (for at least a month or two after the antibiotics stop, depending on the potency) when you have had antibiotics to replenish the beneficial bacteria. They are still very beneficial for regularity and intestinal health, even if you haven't taken antibiotics.
There are some medical conditions (like IBS) that people get a LOT of relief from when they take Probiotics, but even those without any medical conditions still get a lot of benefits for regularity when they take them.

Personally, I have no medical digestive problems, but I take a small dose of Probiotics daily. I've found that they help with regularity (less runs and less constipation, regardless of a varied diet), I have less gas when I don't eat perfectly, and I have less indigestion problems when I don't eat perfectly. No, I don't "need" it... but I get a lot of benefits from it and would miss it if I didn't have it any more.
I hope I helped!Health Question & Answer

Well mate, that would depend entirely on how you feel your digestion and regularity is behaving ........ do you get bloating, gassiness, fatigue and exhaustion after meals.?.? if so, this would suggest that you need to continue taking the probiotic .... in general, you only need to take the probiotic supplement for about a month after completing your course of antibiotics to replenish your good bacteria.

You can also increase your beneficial bacteria levels by adding more fibre to your diet (intestinal bacteria consume dietary fibre and metabolize it into acids that inhibit the growth of bad bacteria) also you could eat yoghurt (if you aren't lactose intolerant that is) ~ preferably made with live, active cultures ...... ;0)

take care of you

peace baby
?Health Question & Answer

If you are feeling normal, there is no need to take them now. If you like yogurt, you will continue to get them without any extra effort. But look for the yogurt that has live cultures.

Though I am not completely sure, there is no harm in taking the probiotics at any time. The excess will probably go off. Health Question & Answer

I agree with minx.

I believe in taking probiotics daily, regardless of antibiotic use. And for me it makes a huge difference in how I feel.

Antibiotics aren't selective killers, which is why it is necessary to use a probiotic to get your system back in order.
The flora in your gut can also become unbalanced due to stress or changes in diet. While that won't necessarily make you ill, it will impact how you digest and absorb nutrients, and have a long term affect on general well-being.

There are no ill effects to taking them daily, since whatever is not used will be eliminated by the body.Health Question & Answer
