Is it healthy/possible to take Siberian Ginseng as a permanent supplement?!

Question: Is it healthy/possible to take Siberian Ginseng as a permanent supplement.?
Hi folks. I have struggled with depression pretty much all my adult life and am a recovering alcoholic 2+ years ^ ^ I have been trying various things to lift my mood recently and at the moment am taking 2 Siberian Ginseng, 1 Ginko, 1 echinecea and a multivit every morning. I have been taking these for the past month. I have found that this has lifted my mood pretty considerably and given me a great energy boost. I have read that long term use of Ginseng is bad for you. Is this true.? I would hate to come off it while it is helping me so much. Is it dangerous.? Thanks in advance.Health Question & Answer

With ALL herbal supplements, the user should give themselves a break between taking them. For ginseng, you should be able to do a 3 to 4 day intermission.

Hi there! Great to know that you have been using Siberian Ginseng with excellent results.

The use of herbs is a time-honored approach to strengthening the body and treating disease. Herbs, however, contain components that can trigger side effects and interact with other herbs, supplements, or medications. For these reasons, herbs should be taken with care, under the supervision of a health care provider qualified in the field of botanical medicine.

Siberian ginseng is safe when used as directed. However, it should not be taken by those with high blood pressure, obstructive sleep apnea, narcolepsy, or by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Some common side effects include:

? High blood pressure
? Insomnia
? Drowsiness
? Vomiting
? Headache
? Confusion
? Irregular heart rhythm
? Nosebleed

** Please note that for or long-term conditions, such as fatigue or stress, Siberian ginseng can be taken for 3 months, followed by 2 - 3 weeks off. These cycles can be repeated, but this should be done under the supervision of a health care provider. **
