Where do you find 90-5% alcohol for tincturesHealth Question & Answer
Answers:
ever-clear is the best ...but a real good vodka will work...Health Question & Answer
In making your own there are varying approaches. I use 180 proof (90%) grape and grain alcohol. I know some herbalists that use vodka or brandy for all of their tincture. And I've used them in a pinch when i run out of the alcohol. Most herbalists will use the 180 proof. Some of the more resinous plants like Yerba Santa or Grindelia require a higher % of alcohol to extract the constituents. 40% of vodka may not be enough.
Here's my resource I use
Alchemical Solutions is an organic distillery based out of Oregon. They have grape and grain. I use their grape alcohol as it has a sweeter taste, but it's more expensive. If you know others who want to order it, it's more cost effective to get the 5 gallon as the shipping is killer.
