Natural relaxants and herbal teas?!

Question: Natural relaxants and herbal teas.?
Yeah, I suffer from anxiety problems. I'm emetophobic (fear of vomiting) which sets off the anxiety. Anyway, I was looking for some herbal teas that work as natural relaxants. I've found chai tea and green tea help me settle down a little if I start to feel anxious but I need something that can calm me right in the middle of a panic attack. Does any one have any suggestions.? The stronger, the better... but it'd be nice if it wasn't so strong that it's put me to sleep. And if it was easy to find, that would be handy. These are only preferences, any suggestions would be great.

Natural herbs that will calm the nervous system are very effective in calming the nervous system to ease anxiety.

I have personal experience with both natural and synthetic drugs. I prefer natural herbs for my anxiety disorder.

I highly recommend Valerian. You can find it (and most, if not all, of the herbs I'll mention in this post) in grocery stores near the organic foods (usually on the same aisle that sells herbal teas, etc.). Side effects are minimal, and in me, none. There is no lag, and it very much offers calm clarity.

Kava Kava is one of the most powerful herbal sedatives I've tried. Brings intense calm with no lack in clarity of thought. The liver toxicity warnings are relevant but only at very very high doses. Yogi Teas has a very good mix.

Hops is a great remedy for nervous anxiety, irritability, and IBS.

Passion flower is an effective anti-spasmodic that offers a calm "mildly" sedating effect.

Scullcap/Skullca is great for anxiety, nervous tension, and tremor/convulsions, and has been effective for relieving tension headaches, anorexia nervosa, anxiety disorders, fibromyalgia, restless leg syndrome, insomnia, torette's syndrom, seizure/movement disorders. It offers a "detachment" effect - our emotional attachments oftentimes are our anxiety roots. Skullcap helps us let go.

Bacopa ("Waterhyssop" "Brahmi") is an Aryuvedic herb in which clinical research in lab animals shows promising results in same or greater effectiveness as Lorazepam with NO side-effects of amnesia or drowsiness. Human testing pending, however, research will discover that the claims are the same in humans.

Chamomile has pleasurable calming effects.

Lavender is VERY pleasing and relaxing.

Utilized alone, or in conjunction with other herbs, these herbs are all non-habit-forming, non-toxic, and are safe for most people, including children, but I must remind you to use caution when taking any medicine while on any pharmaceutical.

Please use wisdom and research.

Do not overlook the benefits of meditation. Start 5-10 minutes and up to 15-20 minute sittings in the morning before you start your day. If there is a magical cure-it-all, it is meditation.

In the middle of a panic attack, Valerian works FAST for me.
Kava Kava works almost just as fast for me, and I use it as a follow-up to attacks.Health Question & Answer

Traditional Medicinals makes a good tea for tension and stress called "Easy Now." It contains passionflower, chamomile, lavender, catnip, rosemary, and peppermint. It does not cause sleepiness, and can be consumed throughout the day.

You can find Traditional Medicinals at Whole Foods, large grocery stores, health food stores, and GNC.

Celestial Seasonings has a tea called "Tension Tamer" which contains Siberian ginseng, peppermint, cinnamon, ginger, chamomile, lemongrass, licorice, hops, and Vitamins B6 and B12. It should be available at any grocery store, but it doesn't work nearly as well as the other brand. Health Question & Answer

The tea that you are looking for is valerian. Valerian is the herbal equivalent of valium and it will indeed relax you and help stop the panic attack.

See a local qualified naturopath for dosage info and he/she will also help you with diet suggestions. I assume that your psychologist is helping you with relaxation techniques and such, which are also an important part of treating this. Health Question & Answer

Second only to water, tea is the most frequently consumed drink worldwide. All types of teas, including green, black, and red teas, have antioxidant properties because of the polyphenols they contain. These antioxidants are thought to provide the body with protection against free radicals. ORAC scores (measuring antioxidant potential of plant-based foods) for teas are often higher than scores for many vegetables and fruits. Herbal teas are considered to be one of the most satisfying and helpful types of herbal

Chamomile tea is very calming and good for digestion. I don't know about helping in mid-panic attack. But it is not so powerful that it will put you right to sleep.
Lavender tea is good for this as well...the company I work for--Harney and Sons--offers a "yellow and blue" tea, a combination of these two herbals.
