Can Sam-e be found in foods?!

Question: Can Sam-e be found in foods.?
I hear that Sam-e is a great product but I am really sensitive to medications and herbal products. Some people get very anxious from Sam-e. I am wondering if there is a way to get Sam-e naturally through certain foods.?
Thanks for your responses! Health Question & Answer

Answers:
S-Adenosylmethionine (SAMe) is a naturally occurring compound that is involved in many biochemical processes in the body.

Dietary Sources

SAMe is not found in food. It is produced by the body from ATP and the amino acid methionine. (ATP serves as the cell's major energy source and drives a number of biological processes including muscle contraction and the production of protein). *1

[Due to its inherently unstable structure, SAMe is not found in significant quantaties from dietary sources. Therefore, SAMe must be obtained through supplementation.] *2 excerpt from http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/same.h...

** Jerry Lee made a mistake in reading I suppose **

Sources: The body makes all the SAMe it needs, so there is no dietary requirement. However, deficiencies in methionine, folate, or vitamin B12 can reduce SAMe levels. SAMe is not found in appreciable quantities in foods, so it must be taken as a supplement.

It's been suggested that the supplement trimethylglycine (TMG) might indirectly increase SAMe levels and provide similar benefits, but this effect has not been proven. *3Health Question & Answer

Meat, fish, and dairy products are all excellent sources of methionine. L-methionine is also found in fruits and vegetables, but not as abundantly. Small amounts of free L-methionine occur in vegetables, vegetable juices and fermented foods. Vegetarians can obtain methionine from whole grains.
