My cousin was hooked on heroin...now she say she is in a methodone program?!

It is a toss up...someone I know had problems with heroin and wasn't able to clean up with methadone because it doesn't really keep them from going back, just satisfies the cravings but they ended up taking Suboxone and have been clean for almost a year now. It is an antagonist so it attaches itself to the receptors and prevent them from craving it at all and give them no chance to get messed up. Even if they do try to go back to their habit it would do absolutely nothing for them and/or could make them sick. It is definitely a better chance with the Suboxone and she should speak with a professional to look into this option, if she does indeed really want to get help. getting clean depends on your cousin. methadone is like a walking stick that will help her with withdrawal period. if she is ready to walk the clean road it will help her, to fight the intense withdrawal process, if she is doing this program under pressure from family or friends she will find ways to get her fix. i have seen people getting clean from heroin and getting hooked on methadone. but there just as many who have done the program to get clean and then wen off the program itself. it all depends on the will power of the individual and their desire to get clean and have a normal lifeHealth Question & Answer
