Question: why if nicotine is as addictive as heroin are they allowed to sell it in the shops..?
you wouldn't be allowed to sell heroin, and nicotine in cigarettes is just as bad do you think the government should ban the sales of cigarettes completely Just as they made smoking illegal in public places.Health Question & Answer

Never heard anyone selling out everything or kill for nicotine, probably that's way, anyway if alcohol is not banned..Health Question & Answer

Lots of reasons.
1) Although nicotine is highly addictive it doesn't mong you out leaving you completely off your face staring into space / sleeping for long periods and stupidly unproductive.

2) About 100 years or so ago, opium was legal and encouraged to keep the masses quiet and suppressed in urban United kingdom.

3) With so many users is it realistic to ban a substance which grows like a weed and is actually very difficult to stop using (I did after 4 years of trying. Many other people will tell you the same story).? Is it better to make it more unacceptable and hope it fades out gradually over time.?

4) Revenue. Its a good source of it.

Having said that, in the UK I think the Government has decided it makes too little money from the revenue as so many tobacco products are purchased abroad illegally so the revenue doesn't go back into the country but the government is left with the health-care bill thus they are slowly trying to phase smoking out but taking the steps of making it less socially acceptable and will save on the health-care bill long term.Health Question & Answer

An interesting question.

I see no smokers burgling homes, mugging people or living on the streets just so they can put tobacco first in their life.

I have watched a heroin addict go through withdrawal symptoms (trust me, it really is not a pleasant thing to experience... try watching it & then compare to a smoker!) but the government think tobacco is 10x harder to give up.?

In 5/10 years time you will see the same sh*t being thrown at drinkers (already starting in the UK) and then at the 'fast food' eaters & the obese... 10 years down the line & you will find that McDonald's are the curse that smokers are today :(

But, I am straying off course.... smokers are propping up the NHS system (in the UK) as they pay far more into the coffers than they get out. If smoking was banned overnight would people be prepared to pay the extra
