we are looking for information and side effects from this drug. weve done some research online but it would be good to hear from people that have actually used it or has known someone who has. any information you can find about this would be appretiated. we are especially confused about what the drug is intended for and what the long term affects are of snorting it. anything will be greatly appretiated. thankyou so much for your time in advance.Health Question & Answer

well. unlike the others who answered your question... I AM actually prescribed suboxone myself...so i hope u get some sort of an answer out of this.

Suboxone is most commonly used to treat heroin addicts. it has two different medicines in it. One of these medicines is an opiate (which gives you that "warm vicodin" feeling). You make ask....why would u give a heroin addict MORE opiate.? That is because since you are so used to using opiates....your brain is used to having them. so after long term use...and then all of a sudden you cannot get some sort of opiate ...you start going through withdrawl because there isnt any opiate telling your brain.."im here, were ok" i hope you get that. haha.
SOOO anyways...the opiate is in the pill to tell that receptor in your brain that you are ok and you dont need to start going through withdrawls.

SECOND - the other medicine in the SUBOXONE is an opiate BLOCKER. the blocker is used to keep you from getting a rush, or a really intense high or "euphoria" from the opiate that is in your system.

When they work together...it is basically a miracle drug for addicts. BUT...if your friends little sister is not addicted to opiates....she is probably getting very high from suboxone since she PROBABLY doesnt have a high tolerance to opiates. Try to find out a couple of things...
1. Try to find out if she has been taking pills recently.
2. Hope to god that she hasnt been doing heroin this whole time and is now doing suboxone to feel better!

most likely...shes just being an idiot and just happened to get these pills and try them. a good thing for you to do is scare her. tell her that it is very hard to come off of suboxone. because even though it is used to prevent withdrawl...you still are going to have to stop taking the pilll at some point. and even that can make you sick.

Do whatever you can to stop this before she does it ANY MORE. because the more she does it...the more shes gunna like it. and the more she likes it...it is almost certain she will try to get HIGHER AND HIGHER each time...and then switching to snorting OXYCOTTON...then the worst...HEROIN. once you start snorting heroin....you are more likely to stick a needle in your arm. and then she will be ******. get her *** in trouble with her parents . as much as you might want to protect her. just think of how bad you will feel when you find out shes shooting up heroin because she got away with it. good luck! This medication is a controlled substance, equivilent to methodone. It is genenrally used for the treatment of narrcotic pain medication addiction. I have to wonder how someone who even get their hands on this medication.

Long term effects....aren't even "long" term... they can be pretty quick actually. You can become addited to this medication very quickly. It can also lead to eventual death. I would get her into a program for narrcotics immediately.

THIS IS NOT GOOD. I WILL SHOW WHY. PLEASE HAVE YOUR BEST FRIEND'S SIS LOOK AT THIS ANSWER.
Suboxone, like Subtex, has a drug that I cannot spell, "epinepriphine", or like that, which is also a brain chemical. Suboxone has one moredrug than Subtex, and both are used in the treatment of getting people un-addicted to opiates, like oxycodone. It's thought of as the new methadone, but safer, unless people abuse or mis-use it.
Suboxone is taken "sublingually", or under the tongue, ONLY. By Swallowing the drug, it can cause vomiting and will not ever work, and these are expensive, so a single pill can cost anywhere from $4 (at the pharmacy) to over $10/each depending where they are getting it and if insurance covers it- it is a name-brand-only drug right now.
I have a friend who quit shooting up heroin and stopped taking Roxys due in thanks to Suboxone. He says it kills the craving for Roxy for like 12+ hours, and he used to bang 'em (shoot up).
More on a personal level, I have another friend whose would-be fiancee is taking Suboxone behind his back, and it has ruined the relationship although they have a new baby together. She has been spotted by him with a quarter-pill (they are meant for breaking and lasting) under her tongue several times, and he is going to confront her about it. I don't understand what this thing is with abusing suboxone, a drug to get you OFF of drugs! And what makes me angry, literally, is that I have to take RoxyFast (oxycodone HCL, 30mg) because of chronic lumbago, and when I want to STOP taking pills, which if I had the money for a private-clinic to get on Suboxone, I would, but before I can, it's getting an already undeserved bad name for girls especially, abusing it. Could it intefere with hormones with females.? That is something left for the drug experts.
But please try to get an intervention because there will be days when she cannot get her suboxone and it'll be hell on the family and friends. Drugs ruin relationships; nearly cost me one recently (the dude who got on Suboxone has died twice). And I've held interventions for a friend (old friend now) b/c he was smoking meth and crack. Drugs weill ruin a relationship, no matter what drugs they are, especially if they are getting a person high AND most importantly, CHANGING their BRAIN Chemistry, which, by the eay, snorting Suboxone is doing- it will not let pain killers block the cells when she is in pain, so if she breaks a bone, she will be hating it! Pull teeth, scrape on the butt, whatever, no pain killer will necessarily work with the brain chemical being introduced into the body ARTIFICIALLY (by even taking Suboxone) through the lungs, which it is MOST DEFINITELY NOT SUPPOSED TO BE DONE! It's a sublingual, and it's for opiate withdrawal, period.Health Question & Answer
