I am starting to get a cold, what is the best home remedy?!

Question: I am starting to get a cold, what is the best home remedy.?
I am starting to get a cold, I am very sneezy, have a horrible sore throat and a small cough and my head feels huge.
I really hate taking medicine, I'm not sure if anyone would agree it makes you feel horrible.

I love tea with lemon and honey and I also love green tea. I didn't know if anyone had any good/useful home remedy! :)

There are no drugs that can cure a cold, it all depends on your immune system to fight off the viruses. All drugs do is to relief you the symptoms of cold, like coughing or sneezing. And sometimes they don't work at all, and make your stomach queasy.

The best thing for you is to provide your body all the supplies it needs to fight off cold; lots of vitamin C, and other nutrients others mentioned here. And plenty of rest so your body can focus its effort fighting off the cold.

The things you listed are all great. Lemon has vitamin C, honey has a good source of nutrients and helps to coat and heal your throat from coughing. Hot beverages like tea helps to open up your sinuses.

Our home remedy also includes avoiding cold drinks, as it feels like it has the opposite effect of hot drinks and makes coughs worse.

To relief congestion, you can press with your fingers on two points on the two sides of your nose right below the bridge, and above the nostrils. Press hard but not too hard to hurt yourself, and you'll feel your sinuses open up a little.Health Question & Answer

Take Emergen-C packets... they're kind of expensive, but work wonders! They're basically just a very high dose of Vitamins C and B, to get your immune system working.

also, avoid dairy like milk and cheese... they produce mucous, and if you drink or smoke, avoid that for a while, too.Health Question & Answer

You immune system works hardest when you're sleeping.

Get to bed, keep warm, drink fluids, and just stay in bed for a whole day.

You may beat it before it gets hold of you.Health Question & Answer

elderberry or elderflower stops the bugs getting into the system, hence killing them off as they can't live.

Eucalyptus essential oil sniffed will also do the trick.

echineacea always works for me. also lots of fluids, plenty of rest, and for a sore throat gargle with salt-water.Health Question & Answer

Here's what I do, and it works for me.

*I take an Airborne tablet in water, because it is like gatorade and it makes you hydrated.
*I gargle with hot salt water, then I sniff a couple of drops into my nose to kill the germs that are trying to get in there.
*I eat a clove of raw garlic with a piece of bread.
*I take a hot bath, while drinking hot tea with lemon and lots of honey, then I wrap up in a robe and get into bed for about an hour.
*That night, I drink more tea, stay warm and wrapped up in a big blanket, or I'll have a couple of glasses of wine to kill more germs.
*I take something like Ibuprofen that night before bed.
*If I have the energy, I'll make homemade chicken soup. I use a whole chicken, or a cornish game hen. I boil it, then I take the meat off the bones, then the bones get put back in and simmered with an onion, some whole carrots, celery, and one sweet potato for about an hour or two. Then I strain the broth, add the meat, a handful of rice, and some of the carrot and sweet potato that was cooked in the broth. It is very good for curing a cold.

That is what I do every time I feel the slightest bit sick. I don't wait to see if I actually am sick, I do it before I actually get sick. I think it's important to kill the virus, or the bacteria, before it replicates and becomes harder to get rid of. It sounds like a lot of work, but it's worth it.Health Question & Answer

I don't know if this works, but it surely is worth a try .... During a lecture on Essential Oils, they told us how the foot soles can absorb oils. Their example: Put garlic on your feet and within 20 minutes you can 'taste' it. Some of us have used Vicks Vaporub for years for everything from chapped lips to sore toes and many body parts in between. But I've never heard of this. And don't laugh, it works 100% of the time, although the scientists who discovered it aren't sure why. To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime, then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly. Just happened to tune in A.M. radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good, due to the chemical makeup of these strong drugs so, I listened. It was a surprise finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, in addition to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly. My wife tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes and believe me, this was a deep, (incredibly annoying!) every few seconds uncontrollable cough, and she slept cough-free for hours every night that she used it. If you have children, pass this on. If you end up sick, try it yourself and you will be absolutely amazed at how it works.
