I have an injection on Friday and I am really scared :( any tips or advice to make it not hurt as much?!

Many people hate having injections, myself included. A couple of tips for you are the following. First, tell the person administering the injection that you are afraid of needles and of the pain. They will reassure you. Second, don't look at the needle, not even a glimpse. You really don't need to see it and it could make you feel worse. Concentrate on looking at somewhere else whilst the injection is carried out. Thirdly, ask the person administering the injection to tell you when they are going to put the needle in and at that moment you consciously relax your whole body by breathing out. You will find that this technique really does help. You may feel the first sting from the needle going into the skin but it won't be so bad. It's a fact that if you tense up the pain can be worse. Relaxation is the key. You could perhaps also ask if you can use your i-pod to listen to music whilst you have the injection. this will distract you. i remember having that and it didnt hurt at all but i did cry but only because the nurse told me to look away and i looked straight at someone else having it done. eat something before hand as the injection is a shock to your system and less chance of fainting when you eat something. its only a little scratch and its over in seconds so dont be scared.Health Question & Answer

Most doctors have a cold spray they can spray onto the injection site. It will numb your skin for about 15 seconds and you can't really feel the injection site. I use it all the time when giving shots to kids. Otherwise, just relax. Look in the other direction, close your eyes, and take your mind elsewhere.Health Question & Answer

Try not to think about it on the day of. Take someone with you who is funny both in the waiting room and when you're called in. Have them talk to you and keep conversation light hearted. At the time of the injection don't look at what the nurse is doing instead look at your friend and make light conversation. Just remember not to move your arm or tense up. I had that, dont worry it hardly hurts at all and I have a massive phobia of jabs!! The nurse will distract you and it is over in about 2 seconds. It stings for less than a second, done!! Seriously, the jabs you have a six do hurt, but these ones don't. I was more nervous before than during the jab!!Health Question & Answer
