Should I see a Naturopathic Doctor?!

Question: Should I see a Naturopathic Doctor.?
I am considering seeing a naturopathic doctor for a stomach condition. He says he does Computerized Electrodermal Screening and uses the Blood Type Diet as part of his treatment. I'm a little hesitant about such... controversial... techniques. Does anyone know anything about these.?

Because they're not licensed in every state, it's important to know where your naturopathic physician got their degree. Make sure the institution was accredited by the Council on Naturopathic Education (CNME)

The Council on Naturopathic Medical Education specializes in approving postdoctoral programs. Naturopathic Medicine is most likely one the oldest forms of medicine, but it wasn't until fairly recently that the field has been a widely accepted form of modern medicine. As a result the CNME wasn't founded until 1978. Since, however, the CNME has become recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as the leading accrediting agency of naturopathic medicine training programs.

There are still many quandaries surrounding the field of naturopathic medicine but, by forming and maintaining high quality education standards, the CNME aims to continue to move the field into mainstream practices. It oversees the education in postdoctoral programs in naturopathic medicine in the United States and Canada. These programs lead to the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (N.D. or N.M.D.) or Doctor of Naturopathy (N.D.) degrees.

Currently there are 7 schools that are accredited or certified by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education. (Bastyr University, Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, National College of Natural Medicine, Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, University of Bridgeport, Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, and National University of Health Sciences - this last is a candidate, not fully accredited yet.)

I hope this helps you, and good luck!Health Question & Answer

Yes, go to a professionally licensed Naturopathic Doctor. They know much more about health care than medical doctors.

I worked as a ICU/med-surg nurse for 15 years. In a non-emergency situation, I would ALWAYS choose to consult with a licensed Naturopathic Doctor before a MD.

All health practitioners (even within the same profession) have a somewhat different approach in their treatment protocols. You need to find someone you feel comfortable with. Don't hesitate to ask questions.Health Question & Answer
