What is alternative medicine?!
Question: What is alternative medicine.?
I'm going to a pyschologist that practices alternative medicine. Will this be similar to a regular psychologist.?Health Question & Answer
Answers:
Alternative Medicine is usually taken to be medicine that is based on natural products.....herbs, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, etc, and extracts or powders/liquids prepared from these. It also includes vitamin and mineral supplements and homeopathy. Pertaining to a Psychologist, this might also extend to hypnosis, counseling and other psychotherapy techniques. If your treatment is going to involve any psychotherapy, it might be a good idea to double check that the Psychologist is a member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy....

If they use alternative medicine in terms of herbs and other nutrients, you could also check that they have some kind of qualification in Nutrition or similar. I would just make some tactful inquiries to be sure, to be safe.
In a clinical setting, it is usually only Psychiatrists (ie. Medical Doctors) who have the jurisdiction to prescribe allopathic/conventional medicine in the field of Psychology/Psychiatry. Psychologists do not usually have any 'prescribing powers' [ http://www.positivenation.co.uk/issue109... ]
