Cataracts do come with age and age 40 is when most optometrists start looking for them. The quality or amount of sleep shouldn't affect his eyes at all. The surgery done today for cataracts is a very easy surgery and the results are wonderful. It really isn't anything to worry about. His vision will continue to get cloudy as the cataracts grow but it shouldn't hurt his vision for years. You sound concerned but you needn't be. It's a part of aging and most people are faced with them and get along fine. Relax dear one:)Health Question & Answer

I just had cataract surgery, it takes fifteen minutes and Medicare pays for it including the glasses and implants. The cataracts come after forty years old in some people. My wife took four years to develop these to a point that they could remove them, mine were a matter of months, everyone is different. There's no pain and it's easier then going to the dentist.Health Question & Answer

Sleep deprivation doesn't cause cataracts - the cause is usually genetic, damage from exposure to too much UV light, or aging (which doesn't apply to a 45 yr old). The good news is that the cloudy lens can be replaced with an artificial one that usually gives people better vision than they had when they were kids - often far better than 20-20.Health Question & Answer
