Rebound syndrome..can anyone explain the physiology..?!
Question: Rebound syndrome..can anyone explain the physiology...?
of the effect nasal sprays have and why the membranes swell to twice or three times the pre spray size when the spray wears off.?I have a sinus condition that makes my nose swell shut sometimes late at night and the nasal passage wont open unless I hit it with a small dose of afrin or something similar...if I don't I wake up with a terrible headache...the next day my nose closes up...I understand it going back to the normal prespray swelling but why does it swell worse.?...any help on the actual changes going on will help...thanksHealth Question & Answer

forcing the nasal membranes to open chemically causes the membranes to swell in reaction to the chemical bath that is put on them...the "rebound" is simply a reaction to the chemical itself....they are basically being burned open and you pay the next day...its why doctors don't recommend the stuff....Id say you need to see an Ear,Nose and Throat Doc soon....you have problems some over the counter stuff isnt going to fixHealth Question & Answer
if you were a sensitive membrane and some jacka*s washed you with a strong chemical wouldnt you swell up too.?...go see a doctor,,,you have problems...Health Question & Answer
