This is nuts. Boyfriend is taking cephalexin. Does this treat Trich? If not, he's in for it.?!

Question: This is nuts. Boyfriend is taking cephalexin. Does this treat Trich.? If not, he's in for it..?
Needless to say, I have trich. Was diagnosed 1/13. I tell him immediately. Doing so because I have not been with anyone else. Oh k. He rushes home asking what the causes are. I tell its a common std so on and so forth. He decides to call his doctor who he can't see until Jan. 20.
In the meantime he's all like babe, if I don't have it, its okay we'll stay together and get over it.... By this time I'm insulted. I said fine. We'll c what ur doctor has to say. Ok.
This is the kicker. He tells me yesterday 1/16 that he's seen a different doctor earlier in the day. The results wont be in until next week. BUT this doctor gives him some antibiotics just as a "precaution." so I make it my business to find out just what the "antibiotics" are. I found the pill bottle, the prescription is for Cephalexin. U take it 7-10 days four times a day. BUT the name is crossed out in a black marker. Ah ha! I grab the old windex, scrape off some of the ink, Its prescribed to a woman (who is much older judging by the name, believe me) on 11/04/08!!!! Even so, I've done my research on the meds in question. But.... Is it possible for this medication to treat trich.?
U see my dilemma.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
He's in for it.

Cephalexin is not effective against trichomonas.

He needs either a 2 gram dose of metronidazole or tinadazole, or alternatively 500 mg twice a day of metronidazole for a week. Metronidazole comes under various brand names, the best known is "Flagyl".Health Question & Answer

Cefalexin is used to treat urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections (including sinusitis, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, pneumonia, and bronchitis), and skin and soft tissue infections.

Treatment

Because men can transmit the disease to their sex partners even when symptoms are not present, it is preferable to treat both partners to eliminate the parasite. Metronidazole is the drug used to treat people with trichomoniasis. It usually is administered in a single dose. People taking this drug should not drink alcohol because mixing the two substances occasionally can cause severe nausea and vomiting.Health Question & Answer

It is usually sexually transmitted, but not always. I had it once and took Flagyl and so did my partner. All your friend has to do is go down to the free std clinic and they will give him flagyl. He might have to wait a while and he might have to pay a small fee, like $10.00. He was probably given the cephalexin or took it from a friend or relative. You both need to be treated for trich. Men are carriers with usually no symptoms, but he can sure give it back to you. He doesn't sound very truthful does he.? It does not take a doctor all that time to diagnose someone with trichomonas. While cephalexin is a powerful antibiotic, I've never heard it prescribed for trich.Health Question & Answer
