Very High Blood Sugar?!

Question: Very High Blood Sugar.?
My elder brother was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. And today his doctor said that his blood sugar level was 30. He was hospitalized and his blood sugar level dropped to about 20. I was wondering how the levels drop.? and what is the normal blood sugar level.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
In australia we use the mmol/L and yes his blood sugar level was really high our levels drop once a hormone called insulin is starting to work or our body has recoperated and has responded well to its treatment. A normal level is within 4-8 that is considered normal.Health Question & Answer

To answer the easy one first, a general "normal" reading should be between 80 and 120. So your brother's was dangerously low.
Now for your other question. The sugars in your blood need to get into the cells of your body to provide your body with the energy it needs to function. The sugars can't get into the cells without the proper amount of insulin in your blood as well. So, when you have a certain amount of sugars in your blood, but not enough insulin, your levels are high, and your body is unable to use the sugar that's there. If you have too much insulin (like if someone takes too much insulin), or too little sugar (like if you haven't eaten, and your body has used all the sugar in your blood already), then your levels are low.Health Question & Answer

Here is some info to review- Good luck and Bless your familyHealth Question & Answer

normally a fasting blood sugar should be between 70 and 100. a value of 30 is extreemly low and a value of 20 is very serious. On the other end a value of 200 is bad though it can get much much higher before people have to be hospitalized.

blood sugar is a measure of the amount of glucose in the blood, which your body needs to keep at certain levels in order to provide energy to its tissues (especially the brain) if the levels get to low then people can become confused, dizzy, or have other mental changes due to their brain being short of glucose. If it gets too high the excess glucose can damage nerves, blood vessles, and cause obesity.

diabetis is essentially a disease which occurs when the body is unable to make or react to insulin (insulin lowers the levels of glucose in the blood )and this is why many diabetics take insulin. If your brother is a type 2 who take insulin shots then it is possible his low blood sugar is due to him taking too much medication or him forgetting to eat after taking his insulinHealth Question & Answer
