IBS-C from quitting smoking?!

Question: IBS-C from quitting smoking.?
I have a horrible time with IBS-C when I quit smoking. The last time I quit in 2007 it was a horrible experience and I figured out that my smoking was actually helping me with it. I know it sounds crazy and disgusting but it is very miserable. I have quit again and want it to be for good but I am having the same problems again but worse this time around. I have tried everything to try to help but to no avail. Has anyone ever heard of this before or has gone through this. I think I need to just go to the doc and get some meds to help out but I would really like to do without the meds. Any suggestions or ideas.? Thanks.

Answers:
Many forms of IBS are actually undiagnosed food intolerances.
Commonly gluten or dairy intolerance, my daughter's was fructose malabsorbtion.

It is possible the nicotine either relieves the intolerance or when you give up smoking, you eat more of whatever you are intolerant of.

See a Dr and get an accurate diagnosis of your IBS, medication may not be needed, you may just have to restrict your diet.Health Question & Answer

I saw this on the TV show "House" He prescribed smoking two cigarettes a day for a Santa Claus with IBS. He told the guy more than two did not help. I thought this was a joke, but after reading your post, I guess there must be something to it.Health Question & Answer

Start keeping a food/symptom journal and narrow down what foods are causing the problem. I would far rather adjust my diet than continue smoking. The first person is right, glutten and dairy are common causes here.Health Question & Answer
