i have a nine yr old brother, we recently found out he has herpes simplex 1
we have no idea how he would get it, he doesnt share food with strangers, we doubt hes been going around kissing girls
nonetheless, could the virus be passed on if i kiss him on the cheek.?
we also i have a sister of 2 yrs, can she still share his food.?
how can we prevent the virus from infecting us.?

there is no way he got it from you kissing him on the cheek. Simplex 1 is a virus that lays dormant in your body and the blisters are what happen when the virus becomes active. The break out happen due to increases stress, high fever, certain foods can irritate it. And it just may be he's had simplex 1 since birth. And the majority of them caught it in childhood. This is nothing new or really noteworthy. Many children get it from kissing grandma. Big deal.
