ok well...I was invited to a birthday party. I really want to have cake and ice cream but that would send my sugar up the wazoo! What should I do.? Can I have a little and just take more insulin.? Any advice is helpfulHealth Question & Answer

Answers:
Enjoy the party. Count your carbs and dose accordingly.

Try never to drink regular punch or soda. You can always ask for water.

Diabetes should never interfere with any activity you want to do.Be safe, well educated on diabetes and enjoy life.Health Question & Answer

Talk to your doctor.

Ask about Bolus/Basal insulin therapy.

I have one injection of a baseline insulin every 24 hours, and then another one whenever I eat.

This enables me to eat when I wish, to not eat if I feel ill, and occasionally to pig out on cake/ice cream without feeling guilty as my control is not affected....

I have to test my sugars about 6 - 10 times a day, and I have to read and research a lot, you really have to know how your body works...

But for now... ask your doc.

It depends on what type of insulin you're on, what other stuff you're eating that day etc....

Good luck.Health Question & Answer

Say no.

Diabetes is a VERY personal disease, it canNOT be cured, but it can be controlled.

In order to control diabetes you MUST pay strict attention to your diet. This takes will power and self-discipline.

As a diabetic, you will have the disease for the rest of your life. if you want that life to be long and happy, free from pain and hospital stay, then you MUST develop self-discipline. You MUST follow doctor's orders. You MUST take your medications in the proper dosages and times. You MUST control your diet.

The length of your life and the quality of your health depends on YOu and you ALONE. NO ONE but you can make a difference.

As for eating the cake and then taking insulin -- that idea is wrong -- D.E.A.D. wrong. if you continue to think that way, you will be dead. In this way of thinking, you let the disease control you; you do not control the disease. And the goal of diabetes is to kill you.

YOU MUST TAKE CONTROL through will power and self-discipline.

When it comes time to cut the cake, just say, "No, thank you. I am diabetic."Health Question & Answer
