My mom is having pain after surgery?!

Question: My mom is having pain after surgery.?
Around august 2008 my mom had a lump near her breast area, she checked it up and the doctor said it was nothing and had it removed. things was alright until the beginning of December 2008.
Now she doesn't have a very painful pain, but now and then she would feel it. she doesn't have any lump again, but she doesn't wanna be check up!

Though after surgery she didn't apply paste to cloth the wounds, is it because of that.? what should we do.?
any advice or story.?

Thanks in advance.Health Question & Answer

I don't know which country you are in - sounds like US. If this was a benign lump your Mum should not be having any pain at all. The fact that she is experiencing pain tells me that it was not a benign tumour and that the roots were not properly removed.

The roots could have made their way into the lymphatic system. I don't know. If the lump was not benign then your Mum should have had chemotherapy for cancer. If she did not then she will die from breast cancer. (I don't mean to frighten the life out of you but she must have treatment) I don't know what this doctor is aiming at.

Are you saying that she didn't dress the wound after surgery in the second part of the question.? This is a bad thing to do as the wound may have infected. The wound must be dressed regularly - at least every two or three days if it is under the arms as the body perspires.

I don't know whether you are being dismissed because you belong to an ethnic minority. Your english is not good and it does not appear that you are getting a clear understanding of what the doctor is telling you. also you have to pay for everything under the US system. If they think that you can't afford the treatment they may be less than candid about what is really wrong. This is wrong. This is why we have government funded health in Australia so that everyone gets treated even if they don't have the money to pay. This won't help you though.

I would go back to the doctor or at least go to outpatients at your nearest hospital and see if they can give your mother some advice. It does not seem right to me that she has come home after surgery and has not gone back for at least one follow - up check - up with the operating surgeon.

When you do go to the doctors do a number of things
1) take someone with you who can interpret for your Mother
2) find out if there is any cancerous material left in your mother's breats or elsewhere in her body. Find out if the cancer has roots that have gone into the lymphatic glands
3) find out if the wound has infected due to the fact that she has not dressed it after surgery.
4) make sure that the wound is kept clean and dressed in the future
5) if you can't get an answer from the present doctor go to one until you find one who will explain the problem properly to you Mothers satisfaction.
6) Remember that your mother shouldn't have any pain at all!!!

I hope that this information is of some help to you and that your Mum gets better and does not have cancer.

I hope that this is of some help to you - remember - you only get one Mum!!!

Good Luck and God Bless!!!

she has to go to the dr. you can never be too safe when it comes to your health. she needs to get over being fearful and go get a check up. its most likely nothing, but feeling pain can be our body's way of telling us something is wrong and only a dr can let her know for sure.Health Question & Answer

I don't think it would be caused by not placing the paste. I don't know why she would not want to get check if she is in pain. I mean whatever it is, it would be better if she went to get it checked.Health Question & Answer

Try to get her to go to the doctor. If not go yourself, or ring NHS direct and explain that someone you has this and what do they think. She really needs to go herself though.Health Question & Answer

I wish I knew. I'm sorry she's in pain. Can you insist she goes to the doctor.? That would at least give you both some peace of mind.Health Question & Answer
