Today asthma is viewed as a chronic (long-lasting) inflammatory disease of the airways. In those susceptible to asthma, this inflammation causes the airways to narrow periodically. This, in turn, produces wheezing and breathlessness, sometimes to the point where the patient gasps for air. Obstruction to air flow either stops spontaneously or responds to a wide range of treatments, but continuing inflammation makes the airways hyper-responsive to stimuli such as cold air, exercise, dust mites, pollutants in the air, and even stress and anxiety.

Asthma can be fatal, yes..a sub condition called Status Asthmaticus can occur, which is basically like asthma that won't go away. Without aggressive treatment, SA is fatal. Triggers differ from person to person. The cause of asthma is unknown. It has a familiar tendency, but no direct genetic link is known. It is more prevalent in polluted areas (major cities) than in rural areas, so that may be a clue.Health Question & Answer
I think you will find its different for each individual. For me its milk. A litre of milk and the next day I will be slightly wheezy, I have had serve attacks. A friend suffer's from asthma very badly and a texter pen will set her off and she will need to go to hospital straight away. So it is different for all concerned.Health Question & Answer
