Overweight and heavy smoker. Other than that no health problems.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
The most usual type of bladder cancer (transitional cell carcinoma, TCC) is rare in younger people, though smoking is a bladder cancer risk factor. TCC can also occur in the kidneys, ureters and urethra, since the cells lining these areas are similar to the ones lining the bladder so that the same type of abnormalities (cancer) can happen there as well; there is also the possibility of cells being "seeded" from the bladder to the kidneys, ureters and urethra. The typical person with bladder (and kidney) cancer of this type is older, male, and smoker. Treatment is generally similar to that done for bladder cancer. If the cancer has invaded the bladder wall, the best treatment is removal of the bladder, called radical cystecomy (RC). The American Bladder Cancer Society's Web Cafe is an excellent source for information about bladder cancer (see link below).

The most common type of cancer arising directly in the kidney is renal cell carcinoma (RCC), which is more common in males, those over 40, smokers, and people who are obese. It is also sometimes called renal adenocarcinoma or hypernephroma. Treatment is different than for TCC, and often involves removal of the affected kidney, and possibly chemotherapy.

Although the questioner doesn't mention the type of cancer, I would guess it is TCC since both bladder and kidney are mentioned.Health Question & Answer

Not sure what the point is to your question . . young adults can definitely get cancer no matter what their weight, whether they smoke or not, or whether they have health problems or not. No one knows in the overwhelming majority of cases why one person will get cancer while another does not.

As for how common . . well . . cancer is rare in young adults . . but it still happens.

You can read more about the types of cancer more common to young adults on ASCO:

Overweight and heavy smoking is a health problem. I can't imagine it is that common but anything can happen. Women do not commonly get breast cancer in their twenties but it does happen. Get to the Dr and start getting back into shape. Bad habits when young will effect you and your health for the rest of your life.Health Question & Answer
