Question: What is the best cough syrup.?

I caught this flu like cold and now I'm stuck with a lingering cough. It is usually ok during the day but as soon as I lay down to sleep, its awful. I am waking everyone in my house up and we are headed out of town tomorrow. I called my doctor to see if I could get in, but in the meantime, what is the best over the counter cough syrup.?
