He is an adult he should be fine, (we have medical insurance issues also so i know where you are coming from) Even though it is uncomfortable, have him wear some boxers and let his sleep in only the top sheet and a light blanket. Give him some motrin. Check him again in 2 hours. If it has gone down, he is good to go, if not, give him Tylonal. Go back and forth between the two medications.

He should be ok, he just caught something nasty. Do go in to the DR's if he develops a rash, the fever stays for 24 hours straight (never breaks) or when looking down his throat he has white splotches (could be strep) anything else is probably a flu and they will just send him home with nothing but a bill.

EDIT: DO NOT PUT HIM IN A COLD BATH. Only DR"S do that because it is monitored extremely closely. That can put him in shock and kill him. And anyways, they do that for much higher fevers. Don;t do that, just let him go to sleep, it is the best remedy: sleep.Health Question & Answer

Alternate tylenol and Ibuprofen every 4 hours until the fever breaks. You can have a fever with a viral infection too. It does not mean it is a bacterial infection. You can hold off on the doctor for now and do that drink plenty of fluids. Go to the hospital for any right sided abdominal pain. Call the doctor if the fever is not breaking with that but remember the fever will go up and down as the medication wears off.Health Question & Answer

-Give him an adult dose of Tylenol.

-Let him wear a thin bedsheet and normal pajamas, but remove warm blankets and warm clothing. He might feel cold and want to bundle up, so explain to him that he's actually too hot so bundling up is harmful.

-Check the thermostat, and have it at a normal level like 68-70 F.

***Don't give him a cool bath or shower, that can make him shiver which would actually raise his temperature more.***

If these methods don't lower his temperature, if he's shivering uncontrollably, or if his temperature gets to 104, call a doctor and/or get to a hospital.Health Question & Answer

he needs to soak in a cool bath. yes he will be freezing his @*& off, but this is better than taking medication. Tylenol is ok as long as his is not allergic to it. Aspirin is also ok, but very hard on the stomach and with a fever like this is may make him vomit. try the bath first!Health Question & Answer

Fever is a sign of illness, it does not tell you why he is sick. The most important thing to do is to investigate why he has a fever. Is it a flu, or pneumonia. Any other symptoms like sore throat.? Coughing.? The best is still to go and see a doctor. Or provide more information to this forum.Health Question & Answer

Either aspirin or another pill-form medicine that has the ability to bring down fever. Or either sponge bath with cold water or immerse his body in a cold bath, only leaving his face out of the water, should bring down the fever after awhile.Health Question & Answer

tylenol. fluid. rest. Get him checked by a doc if the fever doesn't settle with tylenol or resolve within 48hour. If it is a virus (most likely) he will be somewhat better in 2days and back to normal in a week to 10days. Good luck - just watched Frontline - sad countryHealth Question & Answer
