If you have had the disease then you shouldn't get it again. You may also ask about getting the vaccine against the disease, so that shall you become infected, it may not hit you as hard.

He is contagious 1-2 days before the rash and then until the lesions (the spots) are crusted over. While taking care of him (and i am using him for simplicity, since i don't know if the child is male or female), you can wear a well fitted mask and gloves. Of course, you also want to wash your hands after entering his room. Ideally you wouldn't enter his room, but that is probably not an option. The most important thing though to protect yourself would be the mask, gloves, and hand washing. Chicken pox is highly contagious.

As for disinfecting everything, i would wait until he is no longer contagious. wash the linens and bed clothes, and then just use some chlorine based cleaner for the rest of the items he came into contact with (remote control, lamp, etc). i don't believe that the virus though can live that long on surfaces. If it makes you feel better, you can throw away any magazines that he may have read. Health Question & Answer

lysol spray or wipes, or if you get the clorox ones even better. wash the linens in very hot water with a bleach based detergent.

but if you have already gotten the chickenpox yourself, then you are very low risk of getting them again (i assume thats what you meant in your question at least).Health Question & Answer
