Can an eye doctor diagnose and treat pink eye?!
Question: Can an eye doctor diagnose and treat pink eye.?
I'm pretty sure my teenager has pink eye (Happy Monday to us!). I know we need to get in to the doctor, but I'm sure our eye doctor would have a shorter wait... my 3 year old doesn't wait very well! Anyway, would our eye dr. need to be an ophthalmologist to do so.? Or can an optometrist do that.? Health Question & Answer
Answers:
Your eye doctor would be a good first line of defence, but as others have said, could not write a prescription. Since there are several kinds of pink eye, and bacterial pink eye requires antibiotics, you probably should see your doctor.

Health Question & Answer
I'm sure an optometrist can diagnose it but couldn't run tests to see if it is either viral or bacterial, and also wouldn't be able to prescribe medication. Pink-eye, though contagious, will clear up on its own within a week.Health Question & Answer
You'd need to see an opthamologist if you can't see your regular pediatrician. Health Question & Answer
