Question: How do you deal with panic attacks.?.? I notice i've been having them quite frequently.. Does anyone else suffer.?
Answers:
I've suffered from anxiety and panic attacks from several years. I usually am terrified when I'm having them that I'm going to die or have a heart attack, but still have not. I have been to emergency rooms and called ambulances because I was such a mess during some of these.

My symptoms include racing heart, sometimes up to 150 or 160 beats per minute, sweating, racing thoughts, fear, feeling lightheaded, stomach distress, and shivers.

I find they happen more frequently when I am going through stressful times. If I am feeling slightly anxious this may lead to a panic attack later on in the day.

also, sometimes if I overexert myself physically and my heart starts racing it will lead to an attack.

Over time I've learned that you can't let the panic attack feed on itself. If you focus on it, you panic more, which causes you to focus more, etc. It soon spirals out of control.

How do you deal with it.? Educate yourself and learn about how you body is reacting and why. During attacks your body is flooded with adrenaline, which is why most people feel exhausted after the episode. It's the equivalent of sprinting all out for however long the attack lasts.

Breathe deeply and focus on your diaphragm. Learn about simple breathing meditation.

Eat healthy, drink plenty of water, avoid caffeine, alcohol, and smoking.

Have fun! Do things to keep your mind occupied. Reduce your stress level overall. Get plenty of good, deep sleep.

Talk about it to other people who have these experiences so you don't feel like you're alone,

Good luck!

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....

My niece has really bad panic attacks. When she has them, it's almost like she's in another world. We have to talk her through it, tell her to take deep breaths through her nose and out her mouth. Other than that, we just let her know that we are there, and that it will be ok, that it's almost over. also, try to figure out what triggers them. Does it happen at certain places, or if you do something. If it is a fear that is causing you to have them, try to let yourself understand why whatever you're afraid of bothers you so much and go from there.Health Question & Answer

Are you sure it is a panic attack and not a small seizure.?
If it is a panic attack, try to have your doctor give you a very light dose of xanax or something similar to help you relax. If you are stressed about anything, get some help to get you through it. You could possibly have PTSD. Check with your doc.Health Question & Answer

My daughter had this problem too. She found that chocolate worked wonders. We eventually took her to a doctor who prescribed some medication. Be careful of that, because you won't know which medication will work until you try it. Certain drugs can actually make you feel suicidal. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

I used to have those. Anything that reminded me of the events surrounding the first one set off another. It was the most horrible feeling I have ever had! The thing that worked for me is a determination to surrender to it. I was like bargaining with my own dumb brain. I said "OK! I'll go ahead and become crazy if you will just let me be." Then the panic would subside.

Freud discovered that the most common bargain, though, was to convert panic into physical symptoms--namely, paralysis of a hand or leg, or even blindness. He called this condition "conversion hysteria." It's still really common.

It even includes a symptom called "la belle indifference" where the afflicted actually demonstrate contentment that they have become paralyzed.Health Question & Answer
