I think i may have "scoliosis"...what the heck tate is this lump of muscle to my right side?!

Question: I think i may have "scoliosis"...what the heck tate is this lump of muscle to my right side.?
ive been noticing that whenever ive been sitting down, i lean to the left...and ive also noticed that on my right side, below my chest(beside my abs) that there is a lot of muscle there, compared to the left side...and thennnnn i went on wiki and stumbled upon a scary atricle scoliosis and im not exactly sure if i have it...i mean my backbone seems to be fine...its only the son of a fish muscle difference

im scared...would this mean that i have to stick a metal pipe in my back...god have mercy :'(....

what should i do...do i have this disease.?.?Health Question & Answer

First, a few comments on other replies. Just about everyone does *not* have scoliosis these days. (Sheesh, talk about over-generalizations.) also, I wouldn't see a chiropractor for treating scoliosis if you have it.

If I were you, I'd see my family doctor for a back exam. If (s)he says you have scoliosis, get a referral to see a scoliosis specialist. Any doctor without the specialized training doesn't have the expertise to treat scoliosis.

There are a few ways to see if you have scoliosis. The first is, of course, viewing an xray of your torso. The second is to have someone look at you from the back to see if your shoulders or hips are uneven (one is higher than the other). The third would be to touch your toes (or go as close as you can to touching them) and have someone look at your back. Have them find your spine and run their fingers from the top of your back on downward. They should be able to tell if the spine curves. Fourth, while you are touching your toes, they can look to see if one of your shoulder blades protrudes farther than the other. If any of these is true, then you ought to tell the family doctor and get that referral. The scoliosis specialist can make the curve measurements.

Chiropractors, message therapists, acupuncturists, etc., can't fix idiopathic scoliosis. These people adjust the soft, connective tissues and that may (or may not, you can't tell ahead of time) make you feel better, but remember, idiopathic scoliosis is not a connective tissue disease. Your spine is growing curved.Health Question & Answer

I have it too but you don't have to worry as long as the degree of it isn't too much, from what you describe it doesn't sound like it has a too much degree since you say your backbone looks fine, and you can prevent it to improve any further, if you have, by doing some muscle strengthening exercises special to scoliosis. The surgery is for people who has scoliosis with too much degree. If you are concerned go see a doctor and get an x-ray and if you have your doctor will recommend you the scoliosis exercises.Health Question & Answer

calm down. :-) pretty much everyone has scoliosis now adays. its because of how bad our posture has gotten. just because you have scoliosis doesnt mean that it is bad. your spine is crooked because muscles become too tight and they pull on the spine, pulling it in different directions. do some stretches and stretch out the muscles in the back. and you need to start sitting right. no need to worry about it though as long as you dont let it get worse.Health Question & Answer

A quick visit to a chiropractor should give you your answer, and maybe even a massage and an adjustment. They're relatively cheaper than doctors and SHOULD x-ray you before doing anything to you.
Oh, and I do have it, but it doesn't effect me at all.Health Question & Answer
