Double Whammied with the Flu and PMS... what can I do?? serious answers only. others will be reported?!

Question: Double Whammied with the Flu and PMS... what can I do.?.? serious answers only. others will be reported.?
the day before yesterday I started feeling a bit under the weather. Bad cough, sore throat, swollen glands in my throat, but i wasn't extremely horrible.

the next morning I woke up feeling ok, took 2 dayquil, and within an hour I had explosive liquid diarrhea and was very nauseas.. but no vomiting (knock on wood, but vomiting... not a big fan).

I was sick all last night. I didn't eat all yesterday, except 1 soda cracker and barely half of an 8oz can of sprite. (those mini cans).

today I've had a few sips of 8oz sprite and that's it... so far no diarrhea, still lightheaded but not as nauseas as i was yesterday...

I haven't been this sick since I was little... so I don't really know... is it safe for me to try to eat something like toast, or, since I haven't thrown up, only had diarrhea could the worst be yet to come so should I not eat.?

and of course, right when I get the flu, I get my PMS stomach cramps. my doctor suspects I have endometriosis (I haven't gotten tested yet, can't afford it.) so I get nasty nasty cramps and I need to take pain killers for them. (Hydrocodone)

So... what do I do.? would it be safe to take a pain killer when I'm still not feeling good... or should I try eating something first to see if I can hold it down and then try my pain killer...

or just suffer with the pain and stick to small sips of sprite until I know for sure I'm over the flu.?

Answers:
hun, I feel sorry for you because that happened to me once. I hate to say it, but if your stomach still feels sick, I'd stick to sipping on pediolyte, (which is better since it is low on sugar and has electrolytes you'll need to keep hydrated.) Take small sips like you have been. As long as you can hold that down, try to reintroduce food tomorrow through saltines or toast. Rice is also good. Its very calming on a sick stomach if eaten in small amounts. If you eat something tomorrow and you can't hold it down, I'd go see a doctor to make sure you don't have anything more serious because the worst should be over by the third day, and from what you say, tomorrow will be the 4th day.

As for the cramps... nothing like getting cramps when you're sick. Trust me, hydro is only going to make your stomach sick unless you eat with it, so just avoid it. If you have a heated blanket, or if someone can get you one of those muscle/joint patches from walgreens that heat up when you put them on, or a hot water bottle or whatever you can make warm, place it on your abs, and lay down. don't lay flat... prop yourself in a semi-sitting position, with pillows behind the small of your back, and while this won't take away your cramps, it will help make them more tollerable.

hopefully by tomorrow the cramps will be gone (if you're anything like my they're only 24 hours) and you'll be feeling good enough to eat. but like I said, if you still have issues, see a doctor.Health Question & Answer

It should be safe to take your pain killers and yes by all means try eating some toast or something.Health Question & Answer

I would try to eat dry toast and then take your pain killer.Health Question & Answer

first of all, i would not take the painkiller. i'm not familiar with that med, so call your local rite-aid or whatever pharmacy you go to and ask them! i would eat a little bit if you seem to hold it down. if you can, only eat a little bit more.Health Question & Answer
