Tori, without a detailed history as why your child went to the physician initially and any further information ... not much can be told to you that will allay your fears ....
The collapse you describe most likely will be atelectasis (It is a condition where the alveoli are deflated) ...
The several white patches could be a host of issues .... pneumonia being one of them depending on the site of the patches (generally what I think of when I hear the term ...)
Your best bet is to be positive ... knowing that children are resilient ...
