I was told to drink ensure or boost as much as possible - with every meal per day. also, you could put protein powder in smoothies made with whole milk and yogurt (lots of fat in them).Health Question & Answer

Try to think of any opportunity to add calories to a meal or any part of the meal.

If you serve broccoli or another veggie, put butter or cheese on it.

If you make rice, use chicken broth instead of water.

Instead of a glass of water, have a glass of Gatorade, or cut in 1/2 glass Gatorade with 1/2 glass of water. Try fruit juices too, some of them (like Juicy Juice) dilute pretty well with water. Nuts tend to be high calorie and have the added benefit of lots of protein.

Those are some of the things I did to pile the calories on. I kind of lost a few pounds right after each chemo treatment because I had no appetite, and then gained most of it back in the week leading up to the next treatment.

Ginger snaps or ginger bread would be good for her tummy and I liked the taste of ginger during chemo.Health Question & Answer

When my mum was having chemo, she was not up to eating so just drank lots of "build up" drinks which the hospital gave her. They gave her as many as she wanted and she practically lived on them. They really seamed to do the job.Health Question & Answer
