How did the African disease, Schistosomiasis, get into S. America?!

Question: How did the African disease, Schistosomiasis, get into S. America.?
Answers:
Parasites infect humans as well as animals. It is very common for people to travel from place to place, as well as animals either migrating to a place, or being imported there, to spread diseases.

And, it is not just an African disease...

The disease is found in tropical countries in Africa, Caribbean, eastern South America, east Asia and in the Middle East. Schistosoma mansoni is found in parts of South America and the Caribbean, Africa, and the Middle East; S. haematobium in Africa and the Middle East; and S. japonicum in the Far East. S. mekongi and S. intercalatum are found focally in Southeast Asia and central West Africa, respectively.

The disease is endemic to 74 countries, affecting an estimated 200 million people, half of whom live in AfricaHealth Question & Answer

It depends on the species of Schistosomiasis. S. mansoni is found in Africa, the Middle East and parts of S. America.
Other species are restricted to Africa/Middle East (S.haemotobium) and Asia (S.japonicum).
For it to remain in a geographic area, a specific species of the appropriate snail must be present to act as the intermediate host. Without the snail, the schistosome cannot complete its life cycle.Health Question & Answer
