I have a lump under my arm pit?!

Question: I have a lump under my arm pit.?
I'm 16 years old and I noticed a lump under my armpit just today. I've had pain in that area for quite a while now (2-3 months) but I never actually touched the area until today. It hurts to move my arm and when I touch it. The lump is about the size of a pea. Does anyone know what it could be.? Thanks.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
It could be a lot of different things.

Is the lump red and can you see it at the surface.? It might be an infected duct/ pimple/ or a painful abscess.

Did you shave recently.? Often that causes an irritated bump.

Have you been tired or stressed recently and is the lump under the surface of the skin.? It could be a swollen lymph node. We have lymph nodes under our armpits that often get swollen. Give it a couple of days. I had the same thing a couple of weeks ago towards the end of my menstrual cycle. It was the size of a pea and under the skin, and when I touched it, it felt sore. It went away after a couple of days.

If the lump gets smaller than it isn't characteristic of a cyst. Cysts generally do not get smaller in size in a rapid amount of time.

HOWEVER, that being said, if it has been a couple of months, it could be something more serious. Go to the doctor and check it out! Health Question & Answer
