If a 74-year-old individual gets infected with the HIV virus?!

Question: If a 74-year-old individual gets infected with the HIV virus.?
If a person who is normally considered old, let's say 74, and recently finds out that he (or she) has HIV inside his (or her) blood, would that shorten the life of that individual.?

Usually, when first diagnosed, until the time of the actual death, may pass some 10 to 20 years, and the average person dies at 79 of natural causes.

NOTE - I am not infected by HIV and I am not 74 years old. I simply need this information for educational purposes.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Whether or not a positive HIV status would shorten the life-span of a 74-year-old depends on overall health and lifestyle, if the individual has concurrent and/or pre-existing conditions and when and if HIV advances to AIDS.

Ultimately, barring accidental death or homocide/suicide, this individual may succumb to natural causes or to an existing condition before dying of AIDS complications. However, if this is a long-lived person, AIDS complications may be the factor. It depends on which comes first.Health Question & Answer
