My sister has half an arm?!?!

Question: My sister has half an arm.?!.?
My sister was born with having half an arm on both arms. When I was little I always ask my mother why was she born that way but my mother would never give me an answer. Sometimes I feel sorry for her because people would ridicule her and such, actually I WOULD have felt sorry for her if she wasn't such a biyatch to me all the time. No I'm not exaggerating, she is only a biyatch to me and not to my brothers or any other relatives. she's spoiled and a complete poser (she thinks she's goth but she collects cute stuffed animals)

anywayz, I don't mind her because I know she's insecure about her birth defect. I wanna know how could a person be born with that kind of defect.? my mom didn't do drugs. I'm born with both normal arms, how come my sister has both half-arms.? can anyone explain this to me please.? Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Karen, its a genetic defect and no ones fault. No, the doctor cannot make her arms longer. However, prosthetic devices are available to help her function and lead a fairly normal life, including having children.

Don't concern yourself so much with "Why.?", concern yourself with what can be done to minimize the impact on her life. As she grows older she will learn to deal with this in her own way. Meanwhile, try to love her and understand that her life will be very difficult if she doesn't come to grips with reality.Health Question & Answer

the cause of this is unclear, probably.
here is a site about birth defects
http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/health_advice...
it lists there the abnomalies affecting limbs, and also some possible causes.
it is sad that she was born like that and she is probably overcompensating for her defect...Health Question & Answer

My answer to this is: either when your mom gave birth-child the obstetric took your sister from the arms or during the 'birth' inside the womb, the bones weren't made long enough. I never hear of a child with both half-arms, but if your sister is bullying you, tell her that being insecure of her birth defect can't be bad, I mean, sure it's not good to have 'short' arms, but it would be far worse if she didn't have any arms. If it can make you better, ask your mom to take your sister to a doctor and ask him for some help, he might suggest to make an operation to both the arms (one at a time) to make them look normalHealth Question & Answer
