Does my mom have breast cancer?!

Question: Does my mom have breast cancer.?
my mom recently did a mammogram. this is the result. the left breast is ok. " in the upper outer aspect of the right breast, note is made of an approximately 5 to 6 mm rounded nodular density. This appears relatively benign and most likely represents a small cyst or intramammary lymph node" PLZ SOMEONE HELP ME SHED SOME LIGHT.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Hello,

From the way that mammography report sounds she is probably OK. The radiologist doesn't think it is breast cancer. It sounds like the Ultrasound is a precaution. Get it anyway, but I wouldn't get too upset about this.

After finding a suspicious lump via a mammogram, the next step is an ultra sound. If they still can't determine whether it's cancerous or benign they will do a biopsy. Unfortunately it's a long drawn out process which causes you to worry & stress more over the suspected outcome. I am a 6 yr breast cancer survivor and still stress over the time waiting for the results. The key is to finding the cancer early.Health Question & Answer

Hi there,
It's a shame the doctor didn't clear this up for you. The report says that the object in her right breast looks benign, which the radiologist can tell based on its size and shape. Your mum most likely has a cyst, enlarged lymph node, or small calcification in her breast, and not a cancer. 8 out of 10 lumps found in breasts are not cancerous. It's still important that she follows up with other investigations to be safe, but at this stage it looks most likely that she does not have breast cancer. Try not to worry until it's all finalised - my mum went through something very similar a couple of months ago and there was nothing wrong.
Best of luck to you both.Health Question & Answer

the doctor who performed the mammogram should have done this for you. Go to a different doctor if her previous one didn't help. If it is cancer then everyday it goes untreated, the worse it will get. Health Question & Answer

ummm..., chief, maybe you should, you know, ASK A DOCTOR! not a bunch of crackheads on yahoo answers.Health Question & Answer
