How safe is oral sex in terms of HIV?!

Question: How safe is oral sex in terms of HIV.?
apparently the most recent studies indicate that it is virtually risk-free (not for other STD's than HIV though).. Earlier, there has been MANY documented cases of HIV transmission... All claimed that oral sex is the only possibe exposure..

Who should I believe.? Do the recent study results prove that all previous documentations were false.?

hey, i'd use a condom if i had to but let's face it, nobody wants to suck on rubber.. I've never heard of anyone that practices SAFE oral sex.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Very safe.

HIV can only tranmit through the blood stream other than penitrative sex. In fact, although it would NEVER be recommended, HIV is quite difficult to give someone through normal vaginal sex. It is much more likely in anal sex due to ripping (fissures) in the anus allowing the infection direct access into the bloodstream. Not only this but the anus is very absorbant anyway.

The (very) small risk of conracting the infection from oral sex is if you have a cut in your gums or throat and any cuts on the penis. There is a risk, but a very small one.

My personal advice is to be safe if you know that you or your partner has the infection, it most definitely isn't something that you would want to pick up or pass on to somebody you care about, and you can't take it back.

All the best, and enjoy oral sex! Health Question & Answer

All the studies I have read claim that oral sex is the safest (least likely to communicate a transmittable disease). Anal is the riskiest.
Of course, vaginal and anal "protection" can be used; I agree, who wants to suck on rubber.?
The best precaution of all is to do it with only one partner all the time and knowing that you are the only one your partner does it with.
They are all fun; it just depends upon the mood and the moment.Health Question & Answer

Studies confirm that you would have to drink about a gallon of someone's sexual fluids before you had any substantial risk of transmitting HIV.

Old studies really aren't very valid. The old studies thought you could catch HIV by being breathed on, because no one actually knew how HIV was transmitted.Health Question & Answer

Research it further.... in the meantime err on the side of caution. You could also call a doctor who specializes in infectious diseases and ask their opinion. You only get to go around once in this life, you should be careful not to invite an incurable illness. Health Question & Answer

HIV CAN be transmitted by oral sex, but oral sex is less risky than anal or vaginal sex. There is a risk, though, so why take a chance.?Health Question & Answer
