The easiest meter in my experience, is the Accu-Chek Compact Plus. What makes it easier is that the strips are loaded into the meter with a 17 strip drum. There's no coding like in other meters, the amout of blood is small and the lancing device is integrated with the meter, This makes it compact and convenient for people on the go.

The only drawback is the cost of the strips which is around $85-90 per hundred.

The other meter I use is the TrueTrack meter by Home Diagnostics.

The strips are individual and so is the lancing device which makes it less convenient since you need to be sure you keep them all together for use.

The big advantge with the TrueTrack is that the cost of strips is around 30 percent cheaper.

I like both meters and use the TrueTrack at home and just put the Accu-chek in my pocket when I'm at work or travelling. This gives me the best of both worlds.

The easiest are the urinalysis strips (you pee on them - no one has actually tasted urine in this country in probably the past 100 years). The strips will give you an idea of how much sugar in in your urine by indicating a range (not an exact number) by color change. Before the invention of the home meters, most of us used these strips.

Next would be the cheap meters. I believe walmart has the least expensive one (about $10) and both Walgreens and CVS carry the truetrack meters (about $20). Both are fairly reliable (plus or minus 15%). I gave up on the expensive meters and strips since I still have to pay for them out of pocket, I loose them occassionally, and I haven't noticed any meaningful difference in the models. Most meters come with a few test strips in the kits. Some meters come free if you buy a full bottle of strips.

Do you know how they tested urine before modern sophisticated methods were developed.? Hold on now, - they tasted it. They simply acquired a tiny drop of urine on the tip of their finger and tasted it. If it was sweet, the test was positive. The degree of sweetness revealed the level of the problem. You might try it. It surely is simple enough. And I swear to you that I haven't made up what I have written here. MikeHealth Question & Answer
