Where do i send animals to get direct fluorescent antibody test or rabies test?!

Question: Where do i send animals to get direct fluorescent antibody test or rabies test.?
I have a dead (since last night) wild rabbit, my cat bit him around the neck nearly killing him. i tried to care for him undoubtedly getting some of his saliva on my hands, which at some point may have come into contact with my mouth. Im a hypochondriac so id rather be safe then sorry plus knowing that the rabbit didnt have rabies would be a relive. Health Question & Answer

Answers:
based on your description, you did NOT have a valid rabies exposure, even if the rabbit were rabid. You do not need to receive treatment.

But you should most definitely have your cat vaccinated if he has not already been.

If you really are obsessive, and want the rabbit tested, you'd cut off the head and send it to the local public health department -- I would expect them NOT to do this for free - and it could be a very big bill for you, if you can convince them to do it.

But if you want to pursue it, your local public health dept is where to start --- look 'em up in the phone book.Health Question & Answer

look in your local telephone book, under animal control.
call them during business hours.they will tell you what to do with the dead bunny or is it just the head that needed for the rabies test.
